      Sweet Mary. Thank you very much. Connecting with people like you is why I leave such an old film on RUclips. The kindness and acceptance of the black community for my German immigrant mother is not forgotten. While some in Cleveland heard her accent and used it as an excuse to distance themselves, her black colleagues held her close and fully accepted her.

    WoW! I am originally from Cleveland Ohio. I too left Cleveland in 1986 and went into the U.S. Navy. Since then, I have completed my college degrees through to my Ph.D. in Advance Accounting. I started my accounting career at the Karamu House. I usually go to Cleveland once a year to see my parents. Really enjoyed this report.

    People have no clue how important cleveland was. I can go as far as to say it is one of the early mega cities that helped build America and make it the global powerhouse is it today. Cleveland has been one of the largest cities in America during most the 20th century. Top 5 city at once and even longer period a top 10. Cleveland was right there with Boston, Chicago, NYC, Buffalo, Philadelphia, Baltimore and DC. If cleveland had maintained its population up to today then we would know this city much like we do most the other cities in that category… massive, historic, powerful, wealthy cities. Cleveland was the the city for many Firsts. And an important place for many early liberal movements, such as the woman’s rights movement and a large abolitionist stronghold. This has been one of the most Leftist cities in the country up to today. Despite its massive racial segregation today between East and West as a result of some of the most racist behaviors and practices of racial discrimination in real estate, business, and large scale blockbusting…. It’s earlier history was much friendlier and welcoming to minorities and immigrants. If cleveland can manage ti bring the people outta the burbs and back into the central city, it easily has the potential to dominate again with over 2 million in its metro and over a million in the county. If cuyahoga county and Cleveland merged and acted under one boundary, ins leadership and government, much like Philadelphia does and more recently Indianapolis , cleveland would immediately be the 10th largest city in America. Tons of people in its area remain, tons of history, tons of things people aren’t aware. Cleveland is a beautiful place that gets mistreated to much typically by those not even from here.

    thats how it starts though. fight for the right to share everything, then choose on your own to segregate? the same thing is happening to this day. we will never have peace and acceptance so long as we cant all share as ONE people. no black, no white, just "people" i wish it wasnt "a black man going to church or a white man going to church" i would love is people just said "a man" for either of them. we dont need to constantly self segregate.

    I must say something before I continue watching. "Right now I'm living in Phoenix, Az. and the video I watched before this one was a video about my favorite part of Cleveland, and that's The Village Of Miles Hts." We moved to The Village ( this is what all the kids called it then in the 60s) around 1963 on Ohio Ave. from Nicholes Off Wade Park. Those were some of the best times of my life living out there. I mentioned It now because the comment section was off. The last time I was in Cleveland in 2018 I had to visit the spot, and what made my day was a Plaque there commemorating The Village Of Miles Hts right in front of where the house was we called home on Ohio Ave. Which was 15218 that was the address. I'm 69 years old and miss my home town. With the grace of God I am coming home. Peace!!!!

    Thank God these types of things no longer happen. Although there is a powerful elite group of people that still work diligently to convince us there is still major racism in America. Divide and conquer is their game plan and has been for over a century. Thank God again that "we the people" are finally wising up and this elite group of evil controllers are being exposed !

    Greater Cleveland Expands Role as Home of the International Environmental Art Movement as the Primary Economic Engine for the Region and as the 'Cradle for a Universal Culture of Peace' for All Living Things -- the Worlds Children. The Global Home of the Environmental Art Movement is the region in Northern Ohio that is noted for its growing concentration of Sustainable Design and Technology Industries. Geographically, the region occupies the same area as the Greater Cleveland Area where it is centered and where most of the companies are located. It is in the northeastern part of Ohio, an area stretching from the south end to Akron-Canton, Lorain in the west and Youngstown in the east. It is visualized as the home for many of the world's largest technology corporations, as well as thousands of small start ups working on a sustainable future. The term ICEALITY refers to the Theory of Iceality on Environmental Arts but it eventually expands to all sustainable practices, and is now generally used as a metonym for the global cultural of peace sector. Google the above for more information on Cleveland's economic Future.

    • @AstridJulian
      @AstridJulian 6 лет назад

      cee sco... Thanks so much for your comment. Yes, calling these great Americans African-Americans was controversial even back then (in 1996). In the end it was the consulting professors who hired me who decided on this. Later in the video, I went mostly with Black. It's hard to know what to do to keep from hurting people's feelings. I do feel there is so much to be proud of in this story and I was honoured to be asked to write it. And I was thrilled that they let me start by telling the water intake story at the beginning. Sorry about the quality. The copy the producers gave me wasn't very good. A retelling is definitely overdue! A retelling by a member of your community, not just one of your German-American admirers.

      Astrid Julian Not About Feelings When its the Truth... "Black" Americans are the Americans, We are not from Africa We have always been Here, So to Call Us "African Americans" is to Disconnect Us from Our Homeland... We be them Real Cleveland Indians

    • @AstridJulian
      @AstridJulian 6 лет назад

      I would much rather refer to people as humans, but somehow we need to acknowledge that some peoples' ancestors had a harder journey than other peoples'. Kind of irks me that we still label people by the colour of their skin, but how else do you show respect for this extra burden they had to carry through the less tolerant, oppressive decades and centuries.
